In 1983, Terry A. Baker received his North Carolina building license, founded Terry A. Baker Construction, and became a proud father of his first son, Cameron. Starting both a business and a family at the same time proved to be a difficult task that he was more than willing to accept.
Not expecting the new venture to be easy, the company took each job that they could get their hands on in order to increase exposure of the high quality homes, professionalism when approaching commercial projects, and the trustworthy staff found within the business. The company was founded on the basis that the customer walking away satisfied was most important.
The business thrived under a strong hand and Terry’s family grew to include a daughter, Stephanie, in 1986. After seven years, Dillon then joined the family, and the final member, Brett, was born in 1995.
The highest level of quality and personal attitude drove the company to be one of the most respected and sought out in Western North Carolina. In addition, in June 2003, the company became Construction Specialties and Design Builders, Inc. (CSDB). This name has a special meaning to both the founder and his family. The four names of his children were the sole inspiration for the acronym. Each letter is the beginning of their names, Cameron, Stephanie, Dillon, and Brett.
From the beginning, his children have followed his progress through the business. His oldest son, Cameron, who attended Western Carolina University, has worked in the office for many years and will one-day help to run the sister company, Associated Land Surveyors, PC. His daughter will also join the company full-time in May 2008 when she graduates from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With this continued degree of respect and high-quality custom homes, the family-owned business will proudly continue to provide superior homes, quality commercial construction, and a personal touch for every single customer.
